Thompson and Leigh are a local, family-run business founded in 1946, and one of Kent’s most trusted and established bathroom retailers. With over 75 years experience in the bathroom and plumbing industry, we have a history and heritage we are proud of. Thanks to decades of hard work and continued success, Thompson and Leigh has expanded to eight bathroom showrooms throughout the South East.
Thompson and Leigh was founded in 1946 by Fredrick Edwin Thompson, grandfather to current owners David and Ian. Starting his career as a plumber, Fredrick soon recognised the growing demand for quality plumbing and sanitaryware in the post-war building trade and opened the company’s first branch in Bexleyheath. Within a year, the business expanded, adding fireplaces to its product range and opening a second location in Abbey Wood.
In 1955, Fredrick’s son Douglas B. Thompson joined the business after serving in the RAF. As demand grew, the plumbing supplies side expanded rapidly, acquiring neighbouring premises and building a warehouse to hold increasing stock levels. Over the years, Thompson and Leigh has continued to grow and evolve whilst remaining a family run business, with Douglas’s wife Pamela Thompson and two sons Ian and David Thompson also joining the business.
From humble beginnings to lasting success, Ian and David continue to build upon their family legacy. Thompson and Leigh now showcases its expertise across eight bathroom showrooms in Kent, South East London, and Sussex. Plus, we have nine plumbers merchants directly supporting the trade, with our Dartford branch also offering commercial pipes and civils.
